Beyond delivering data excellence to our clients, Syniti believes in the power of data to make a positive impact across businesses, people, and the environment. That is why Syniti is committed to helping reduce the carbon footprint by planting a tree for each successful customer go-live and through our growth with each new employee.
In recognition of Earth Day, Syniti is excited to share the expansion of our Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiatives that includes our growing Syniti Forest program.
ESG is often referred to as sustainability; in a business context, sustainability is about how a company's products and services contribute to sustainable development. Through our ESG programs – and with our customers, new employees, and partners – Syniti seeks to solve one of the most complex environmental challenges: climate change.
The USDA Forest Service says it this way: “If climate change is a battle for Earth’s survival, then trees are the vital army holding the line1.”
At its roots, Syniti Forest is an ESG program that allows Syniti to help curb devastating climate change by planting trees in regions around the globe where we operate.
“Syniti Forest is more than an ESG initiative,” says Janet Mesrobian, Syniti’s chief compliance officer, “it is part of our core value to give back to the planet and to make a positive impact for the future.”
At Syniti, we are grounded in four core values: Think Big, Stay Curious, Take Action, and Stronger Together. These four core values are elemental to who we are as a company and fuel the data magic we bring to our customers.
In nature, carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, and nitrogen are essential to life. These four elements comprise about 96% of the human body, and most of a tree's roots, trunk, branches, and leaves.
As humans, we consume carbon from our food; yet trees breathe it in - like we breathe in oxygen. When a tree breathes, it inhales carbon dioxide and exhales oxygen — the exact opposite of humans. And as a tree matures, it can inhale 22 lbs. of carbon dioxide per year and exhale enough oxygen for one person to breathe for 2 years2.
By taking action through Syniti Forest, we seek to reduce the average carbon footprint per person. (The carbon footprint measures emissions of gases that cause climate change into the atmosphere.) Offsetting the carbon footprint by planting trees will take time and is a collective effort, but Syniti has goals.
By the end of 2023, Syniti Forest will support the planting of more than 14,000 trees in five locations near communities where Syniti operates. These locations include:
Syniti Forest is part of the Syniti landscape and – just like each one of our employees, customers, and the company – it will continue to grow and flourish. By this time next year, we hope to share news of Syniti Forest opportunities in Latin America and Australia.
This ESG program is just one example of how Syniti is cultivating a stronger, healthier, more sustainable future – starting at the roots.
